Flooring Designers

Cork Oak is currently one of the most fashionable new flooring trends
used by internationally renowned architects and interior designers, and
is quickly becoming a favorite option for environmentally conscientious
builders today.

While still relatively new to the scene in the United States, the
remarkable properties of sustainable Cork Oak have been well cherished
in the Mediterranean for centuries.

In order to share some insight with the trade, we’ve sponsored a free online AIA Continuing Education course for architects and designers entitled “Cork Oak Flooring: Properties, Finishes, and Acoustical Solutions”, presented by our own Paulo Nogueira, Managing Director of Amorim Flooring N.A.

The course is powered by AECDaily
and provides an overview of the engineered oak wood flooring process, the
natural properties of cork, types of cork oak flooring products; along
with a discussion on the comfort of cork oak and the available
wear-resistant finishes and acoustical solutions.

Upon completion of this course, you’ll be able to:

• Describe the geographical distribution, harvesting, and types of cork oak.

• List the natural properties of cork, including the “green” benefits of designing with Cork Oak flooring systems

• Describe the types of finishes available
for cork flooring, including new developments such as Ceramic Wear
Resistant Technology (WRT) Finish and High Performance Surface (HPS)
Finish

• Compare the sound performance of cork
floors with Noise Reduction Technology (NRT) against traditional wood or
laminate sound-deadening floors.
